Head Count

26 Jul 2006 5:30 pm -- Field 1 (turf) at Molecular Radstars/MIP

Can you be there?

[UPDATE]

Here are the current standings:

TEAM
Earmuffs
W
7
L
0
Run Diff
57
Freshly Killed Chickens 6 1 58
Robust All-Stars 5 3 67
Base Pairs 5 3 25

If the season ended today, we would be in the playoffs based on run differential. If we win out and keep up a good differential, we'll be in the playoffs. The Base Pairs finish the season with a game against FKC, so FKC can help us out beating the Base Pairs and giving us some breathing room.

Our fate is in our own hands.

Rest of the Season + Playoffs

The schedule for the remainder of the regular season:

19 Jul 2006 5:30 pm -- Field 5 versus HazMats
26 Jul 2006 5:30 pm -- Field 1 (turf) at Molecular Radstars/MIP
02 Aug 2006 5:30 pm -- Field 8 at Blacksox

In the comments, indicate your availability for this week's game.

A look at the top of the standings...

TEAM
Earmuffs
W
6
L
0
Run Diff
44
Robust All-Stars 5 2 73
Base Pairs 5 2 38
Freshly Killed Chickens 4 1 38

Only the top three teams advance to the playoffs, and I assume that we won't be able to take over first place given the strength of the Earmuffs team. We're in second place right now, but Freshly Killed Chicken can slide into second if they win out. They'll have to beat Base Pairs on the final week for that to happen, which would give us third place if we win out. If Base Pairs wins out, we could end up in a three-way tie for second place. Ties are broken by run differential.

What does it all mean? It means that we hold our destiny in our own hands. If we win each of our final three games and do so by comfortable margins, we can hang onto a playoff spot without any help from Base Pairs or Freshly Killed Chicken.

The playoffs will be held in three rounds by pitting the top 3 teams in our division (SS3) against the top 3 teams in the SS4 division. Our schedule depends on our seed, and we should be prepared to play at any of the following times, on short notice:

Round 1: Thursday 3 August 5:30 pm or Friday 4 August 5:30 pm, depending on our seed
Round 2: Wednesday 9 August 5:30 pm
Final: Thursday 10 August 5:30 pm

Clear your schedules! We'll need to be at full strength for the playoff games.

Well, that sucked.

Let's put last week's game out of our memory. We're still in pretty good shape:

TEAM W L Run Diff
Earmuffs 6 0 44
Base Pairs 5 1 46
Robust All-Stars 4 2 65
Freshly Killed Chickens 4 1 38
Aeros in the Outfield 2 3 -16
Haz Mats 2 4 26
MIP 0 6 -107
Blacksox 0 6 -96

We're in good shape, especially since we play the Base Pairs this week. We can take over second place with a win, so let's keep our focus on this week's game.
