Robust All-Star 11, Aeros in the Outfield 7

Seasonal Record: 1-0.

The Robust All-Stars defeated the Aeros in the Outfield 11-7 yesterday behind 3-hit, 3-RBI days from Kevin Brower and Ben Hackel. Jason Walther scored three runs and Nate Aumock pitched 3 innings of 2-run relief as the RAS took the first game of the MITCSS season.

The RAS took an early 5-1 lead, but the AitO stormed back with four runs in the fourth inning. That was it for pitcher Sal Baxamusa, who gave up 5 runs in four innings while recording a strikeout. In the top of the fifth, the RAS took the lead for good. Dave McClain was thrown out at home to end the inning. Said McClain later, "I would have slid if it weren't for the astroturf," leaving some teammates to question his dedication.

The RAS clung to a 1-run lead into the seventh inning thanks to some fine defense by shortstops Aumock and Brower and left-centerfielder Hackel. In the seventh, they blew the game open by scoring 4 runs and the AitO went quietly in the bottom of the inning, scoring one and stranding another. Although they opened the season with a victory, some team members - speaking on the condition of anonymity - expressed frustration that orange wedges and Capri Suns were unavailable after the game.
